Empirical Flow Rate/Pressure Drop Relationships for Capillaries of Triangular and Rectangular Cross-Sections to be Used in Yield Stress Fluid Porosimetry

The aim of the present work is to investigate flow rate/pressure gradient relationship for yield stress fluids through rectilinear capillaries non-circular cross-sections. These very often serve as basic elements in modeling porous media bundles or pore-network models. Based on notions shape coefficient and critical Bingham number, empirical relationships have been proposed both Herschel–Bulkley fluids. reliability these has assessed by performing numerical simulations with open-source Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) package OpenFOAM. For considered cross-sectional shapes (equilateral triangle square), a wide range numbers, predictions shown be good agreement results current simulations, well previous from literature.
